Artist duo Sofie Lachaert and Luc d'Hanis offer arty accommodation formulas
Tuesday, September 12, 2017
— There are many ways to experience art. You can go to an art museum, read a book about its history or its philosophy, or you can decide to go to art school. Sofie Lachaert and Luc Dhanis offer guests the possibility of literally stepping into a contextual work of art, of being enveloped in the fascinating world of the duo of artists. Join the dialogue between the mundane and the sublime, and experience the phenomenal inner workings of boundary breaking art objects.
Sharpen your senses
The working and living habitat of the duo of artists is embedded in a beautiful riverscape and situated on the site of a reinvigorated shipyard. Tracks of the industrial past were laboriously processed in the contemporary setting it is today. This crossbreeding of the here and now with the past makes for a transcendental atmosphere. It entails an open invitation to reflect on the perennial antipodes of the strangeness of the vibrantly esthetic and the soothing feeling of the familiar.
In bed with art
In our accommodation you get inspired in its original etymological meaning, as a seemingly effortless symbiosis of art and artist, of craft and craftsman, of experience and environment. Be moved, step into the experience and “sleep with eyes wide open” in an oasis of tranquility. You will sleep and live in a setting of highly qualitative work of primarily Berlgian artists, designers and artisans, a special mélange of various art forms that makes for an unabridged experience. The ‘one and only suite’ offers a wonderful sleeping accommodation. A great, grand bed made up with the finest Belgian linen, the bathroom with a rainfall shower and Japanese bathtub and accompanying rooms add up to one big Wunderkammer, designed and arranged with a keen eye for even the smallest detail.
The workshop, a spacious breakfast space bathing in subtle northern light, a shelter with a view of the wide and semi-wild garden and an impressive loft space with high windows that give a view on the 17th century chapel of Tielrode: all these spaces are freely accessible to our guests.
A memorable experience à la carte
In the hospitable atmosphere of our venue we can arrange for a specific experience that transcends the mundane. Our personalized approach delivers a service tailored to your needs, you will be regaled and pampered. On demand, we invent a specific scenography so you can be an active part of our art. About atelier lachaert dhanis
Both halves of the Belgian artist duo, Sofie Lachaert and Luc d’Hanis, graduated at the KASK (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) and at HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts) Antwerp. Their long-standing symbiotic relationship seamlessly interweaves conceptual applied and visual arts, philosophy and craftsmanship. They make artworks that exist outside the conventional, for their works they create an ultimate context for them to inhabit. Their pieces have hidden layers of meaning and interpretation in objects resonated with the surreal undertones of the scenography. Like in a film set, multiple carefully crafted realities persuaded the audience to take a step inside, to look closer. Informed by their distinctive point of view, atelier lachaert dhanis’ scenographic designs celebrate craftsmanship, while remaining focused on reinterpreting existing ideas and preconceptions.
The duo also creates also scenographies and contextual environments for galleries, museums, art fairs…around the world.
